Trainspotting

Trainspotting - Edinburgh, Scotland

Trainspotting (1996) is a British comedy which has elements of crime and drama. Directed by Danny Boyle, the film focuses on the characters Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) and Daniel Murphy (Ewen Bremner) who are heroin addicts in the late 1980s in an economically depressed area of Edinburgh. Trainspotting exposes the extremes of urban poverty and the rich, higher class Edinburgh. Despite the film being set in Scotland’s capital, the majority of scenes were actually filmed in Glasgow and the final scenes were shot in London.

Take a look at the film's trailer...

SLEEP

If you want to stay on the same street as Trainspotting was filmed on then we recommend that you stay on Princes Street. With over 95 hotels to choice from, you’re bound to find something which suits you.
A classic and historic Georgian hotel is something which makes Princes Street iconic. The George Hotel is located in the middle of Princes Street. It’s close to Edinburgh Castle which makes it ideal if you’re planning on exploring the city centre. The Grade 2 listed building is over two hundred years old.
However, a great refurbishment project has seen the hotel transform into a grand hotel. With modern features such as a flat-screen TV and WiFi, you’ll feel right at home. It also has a roof top which has a pararamic view of Edinburgh. For £103 a night, it is definitely a luxury option. If you’re after somewhere a little cheaper, visit booking.com.

EAT

There are so many places to choose from to eat in Edinburgh, but where? We recommend The Scottish Cafe & Restaurant. Situated next to Princes Street Gardens, it’s a perfect place to go if you’re feeling a bit peckish or ravenous.
The cafĂ© part offers a selection of sandwiches and a wide variety of hot and cold drinks. Starting at £6.95, these sandwiches are cheap for the quality that they are. If you fancy something a bit more filling, they offer a wide variety of main meals.
From traditional smoked haddock to a simple mac and cheese, there will definitely be something that you fancy trying. Starting at £14.95, you won’t go hungry. For more information on places to eat, visit tripadvisor.co.uk.

DO

The opening scene of Trainspotting, Renton and Murphy are chased by security for shoplifting down Princes Street In Edinburgh. We recommend you to visit Princes Street for the incredible choice of shops, we don’t recommend you shoplift though.
Princes Street is notorious for being the main shopping street In Edinburgh. Stretching a mile long, it’s a perfect way to spend some of your time in Scotland’s capital. Whilst you are on Princes Street, you will be able to see Edinburgh Castle. You could walk to the castle or take a tour bus.
Costing you only £14, you can chose from the five bus tours which Edinburgh has to offer. The City Sightseeing Bus will take you around the older parts of the city and the castle, or how about the Bus and Boat Tour? For only £6 extra, it will pick you up from Princes Street and take you to see the HMS Queen Elizabeth.
