LOST

LOST - Hawaii, USA

The island of Oahu in Hawaii proved perfect for the filming of Lost, the location was chosen due to the wide range of diverse filming locations available in close range. The television series got a lot for their money with various urban areas in and around Honolulu being used as stand-ins for locations around the world, including California, New York, Iowa, Miami, South Korea, Iraq, Nigeria, United Kingdom, Paris, Thailand, Berlin, Maldives, and Australia. However, they probably needed to save a few pennies because due to its large ensemble cast and the cost of filming primarily on location in Oahu, the series was one of the most expensive on television, with the pilot alone costing over $14 million.

In case you haven't seen the series, here's a trailer for the show...

SLEEP

Turtle Bay Resort occupies a peninsula between a surf break and a sheltered swimming beach on the sleepy North Shore of the island of Oahu. Tennis, golf and horse riding are just some of the activities on offer. Doubles from £130, turtlebayresort.com

EAT

Hawaii’s most populous island offers more than beaches: it’s also home to a burgeoning food scene defined by local ingredients and traditional one-of-a-kind treats. Poke is a popular, yet simple dish of raw fish, kukui nut, and sea salt, often served over rice, it’s sold everywhere from liquor stores to supermarkets. While it may be ubiquitous, poke is only as good as the quality of fish used.

DO

Visit the birthplace of modern surfing, Waikiki Beach, where the slow, gentle rollers are ideal for beginners. Also, you can try a variety of watersports – from stand-up paddle boarding to outrigger canoe surfing. And if you’re feeling fit try the Haʻikū Stairs, also known as the Stairway to Heaven, a steep hiking trail on the island. The total 3,922 steps span along Oahu’s Ko’olau mountain range.
